I did not realise where time has passed in this institute. The five year Architecture course is long, and the journey has been joyous and eventful. At this point in my life I would like to say thanks to:
My parents who have made several sacrifices to make this possible.
Arijit, Tapan, Rishi, Varun, ‘Jitu’, Arjun, Devesh, Rucheet, Vinod, Ansel, Arjunan and Abdul for making the five years enjoyable, working in the college studio fun, and the course a lot easier.
Ar. Manoj Parmar whose guidance in the second year made a world of difference.
The college staff viz. Sachin, Kalpesh, Yogesh, Raghu, Ramdas, Mane, Dutta and ‘Uncle’ for always being there to help.
Ar. Nikhil Khadilkar and Ar. Sriganesh Rajendran for taking time off to reply to my queries and discussing thesis.
Sandhya Ma’am for making construction easy.
Sachin, Durvesh, Rajiv, Rutwik, Ajay, Anuj and Kaushik, for being around.
Jiten, for pushing me to finish my technology portfolios.
Varun, for answering my calls and explaining to me stress-strain related issues over the phone before each and every structures examination. I do not know what I would have done without your help. (Remember, “........tare zameen parr ?”)
And for driving us to Marine Drive late at night, many, many, many times.
And for making that animation for my thesis presentation.
I would like to thank my guide Ar. Rohan Shivkumar. This thesis is a result of your patience. Thank you for making yourself available to hear to what I had to say, read what I wrote and see what I had drawn. Thank you for the encouragement that has fuelled my imagination and my enthusiasm. I cannot put everything in text, all I can say is, “My work would not be the same if it was not for your guidance.”
Arijit for being around whenever I hit a road block.
Varun, Rishi, Devesh and Arjun for lending an ear and helping with work whenever I was stuck.
A special thanks to Abhidnya Charya, Hrushit Thakkar, Jiten Desai, Jyotiraditya Shah, Pratik Kamble, Sagar Oke and Shaleen Jethi for helping out with the thesis workload, and to Chiraag Punjabi, Akash, Jagrat, Priyanka, Vatsal, Mithun and Orville, And to four third year students, Badal, Asra, Reema and Vihang for sharing their work on the Deonar Abbatoir with me. I highly appreciate your contributions.
To Ranjit Kandalgaonkar for taking time off to make the painting that now occupies the cover page and to Ar. Sonal Sundararajan.
Thanks to Sonal for all the auto-rickshaw rides home, bringing soup and salad to the studio whenever you could, words of encouragement and advice, and being around.
Tapan, for working on the views, fighting the deep sleep he was in on the eve of the jury.
To all the faculty members who have been part of the institute over the past five years.
And, lastly to Eric Cartman, Beethoven, Mozart, Bizet, Richard Wagner and Bach for helping me stay
sane.
